Have you guys realized that it’s officially only TWO WEEKS until Thanksgiving? The holidays are sneaking up quickly and you know what that means… traveling to spend quality time with family!
So naturally, I’m about to throw some style related travel tips your way. I partnered with Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company on this post about traveling (safe & smart) with your jewelry this holiday season. Because you know what the holidays and jewelry have in common? SPARKLE. Oh yes, I’ve already got tinsel on the brain 😉
Jewelers Mutual has tons of awesome jewelry related advice on their blog, but I gathered my favorite travel tips here to share with you!
1. Choose Wisely
When packing for your trip try to bring as little jewelry as you think you can get away with. Plan a “travel capsule” and stick to classic, versatile pieces that will coordinate with your whole wardrobe.
Plus, you’d better learn to pack light or the tooth fairy will leave coal in your luggage! Okay maybe I made that up. Pack light anyways, it’s an important life skill.
Of the pieces you decide to bring, wear what you can while traveling… but don’t call unnecessary attention to yourself with flashy jewels. Keep a low profile by turning over your diamond ring so it looks like a simple band & tuck your necklace into your top to conceal it.
2. Pack Smart
Pack what you aren’t wearing in a jewelry roll to keep everything organized & protected, then tuck that safely away in your carry-on or personal item. Lost luggage is a little too common so play it safe by never packing jewelry in your checked baggage!
3. Make A List
Before leaving document all the jewelry you’ll take with you with pictures or a video… it’s a smart precaution to take, just in case.
4. Location Location Location
The most common place for jewelry to go missing is your hotel room, so play it safe by keeping everything tucked away in the hotel safe 😉
Rad life hack coming your way in 3… 2… 1… Use your vacation as an opportunity to leave your jewelry behind! Drop it off with your jeweler before you leave for a cleaning & inspection, then come home to sparkling clean jewels. Don’t forget to pat yourself on the back for being a multi-tasking goddess.
5. Life Happens…
The icicle cold truth is, sometimes life just bites us in the butt and things get lost, stolen, or damaged no matter how careful we are… that’s why jewelry insurance exists 😉
Renters & homeowners insurance doesn’t always cover jewelry, but luckily it’s easy to get the right jewelry coverage before you leave for the holidays. My wedding set has been insured by Jewelers Mutual since the day my husband bought it (true story!), and we’ve traveled everywhere from Mexico to Japan (and plenty of places in between) with full worldwide coverage… I definitely get more enjoyment from my rings knowing that they’re always covered for those worst case scenarios!
