Because I’ve been focusing on accumulating fewer articles of clothing, I’m not going out and buying tons of cute holiday party outfits. Instead I thought it would be more fun to focus on beauty… because really, the whole point of rocking a minimal style is to let your beautiful face & personality shine through!
For me, one of the absolute easiest ways to add spice to any outfit for a party is bold lipstick. Today’s holiday ready ombre lip look was inspired by two beautiful shades of Neutrogena® MoistureSmooth Color Sticks: Plum Perfect & Deep Plum. I love how the ombre effect not only adds drama, but also gives a wonderful optical illusion of fuller, bigger lips (and I can’t say no to that)!
Start out with a good base by making sure your lips are hydrated & gently exfoliated. Next, fill in your lips with a nude liner (or even just your foundation) to create a base for the Color Stick to adhere to.
Fill in your lips with the lighter shade (Plum Perfect). The Color Sticks are come in a convenient twist up pencil shape so they’re stupid easy to apply!
Use the darker shade (Deep Plum) to line the outer edges & corners of your lips. My top lip is (sadly) a bit asymmetrical so I usually cheat the shape just a tiny bit. It’s easier to get away with using deeper colors, but if you’re going to overline keep it subtle.
You will look scary at this point, like the 90’s (in a bad way)… don’t panic!
Blend, blend, blend, blend, blend! Use a lip brush to blend the two colors together until it creates a subtle ombre effect. Then smack your lips together a bit (like a fish!) to blur the line a little bit more. Voila, fabulous ombre lips!
I like to pair a bold lip with a more subtle makeup look, so I kept the rest of my face mostly natural… “natural” 😉 Just a dewy highlight on the cheekbone, soft blush, and big lashes. Since the ombre lip works really well with a natural makeup, it’s a great way to quickly take your look from day to night!
I love how creamy & moisturizing the Color Sticks are (yay for fruit extracts & shea butter!) on winter lips. I always struggle with chapped lips in winter so I love how these feel more like a balm, but with the pigmentation of a lipstick 🙌
I told you we were done but I lied! There’s one more very important step and that is (drumroll please)…. gently removing your makeup at the end of the night. Keep your beautiful face beautiful by removing your party look with Neutrogena® Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes. These little babies take it all off in one step (even waterproof mascara) and there’s no need to rinse… which is perfect for those post holiday party nights when you just want to flop into bed!
