Who else is totally loving the eye motif trend lately? I can’t get enough of anything eye print, and I’ve been crushing hard on all the adorable Anya Hindmarch eyes… I mean, it looks like a little creature. He’s so cute! Unfortunately the real little cutie is $1200. And while I do believe that designer bags are an exquisite treasure, sometimes you just want to get the look without spending the dough.
So when I found this crazy affordable crossbody bag at H&M (only $20!) I knew I had the perfect foundation to DIY an Anya Hindmarch inspired creature handbag of my own… I love my little crossbody creature!
- black & white acrylic paint
- craft paint brush (I used a small flat angled brush)
- 2 sizes of small cylinders to trace
Using a ruler & a pencil, mark the center of your bag so that you can make sure to space the eyes evenly. If you’re using the exact same H&M bag as I did, there is a smooth & pebbled side of the bag… use the smooth side.
With the larger of your two cylinder objects, trace the outer circles for the whites of the eyes. (I used a shot glass & paint bottle to trace my circles, just look around your house for anything that will work!) The pencil mark will be just visible enough for you to see.
Fill in the circle white white paint until opaque. I had to do 3 coats.
Do the same with your smaller cylinder shape, then fill in with black paint.
Erase any leftover pencil marks. Ta-Da! Enjoy your new crossbody creature!
