Playing dress up seriously never gets old… and lucky for me I get to do a bit of real life theme dressing at work! A few of my co-workers instituted a (totally optional) dress up day with a different theme each week, and it taught me a valuable wardrobe lesson.
The point isn’t to come to work dressed in a costume, but to make a real life outfit following the theme as inspiration. Some of our favorites so far have been: mermaid/nautical, dots & stripes, athleisure, floral, Disney, throwback, & minimalism.
Okay weirdo but why are you talking about this totally impractical dress up crap on your blog?
I promise I’m going somewhere with this, let me explain 🙂
Trying to make my existing wardrobe fit the weekly themes forced me to come up with new outfit combinations that I would have otherwise never thought of. Genius!
This was the outfit I wore for mermaid day (realistically more of a date night look for me). The vest & skirt have both been sitting in my closet for years and I never would have worn them together but I love the way the outfit turned out!
Try your own fashion Friday themes with friends, family, or co-workers! It’s most fun if you have a big group of people to participate & submit ideas (especially since other people’s theme ideas will force you out of your comfort zone more). It also makes for some rad photo opps 😉
Psst: More capsule wardrobe goodness coming on Friday! And if you want more dress up fun don’t miss my Kimono in Kyoto post.
