Summer in Seattle can be short & unreliable (hello random thunderstorm last weekend!), so I’m all about squeezing every last drop out of summer’s sunny weekends. Fall is already right around the corner but luckily I have a few long weekend getaways on the books… and by long weekend I mean leaving town straight after work and staying until I head back to the office on Monday morning!
4 Long Weekend Packing Tips
the 3 shoe rule
You can cover pretty much every occasion in 3 shoes or less. For quick summer getaways pack one sandal, one comfortable walking shoe (like sneakers or comfy flats), and one shoe that can be dressy enough for a nice dinner. To go even more minimal bring a shoe that fits two categories (like a sandal dressy enough for dinner, or comfortable enough to walk all day in) and then you’ll only need to bring two pair!
Be an outfit repeater
You’re on vacation, nobody will notice but you! On a short trip I try to pack as light as possible which means only bringing pieces that are mix & match superstars and having no shame about a bit of #onrepeat action.
Bring a jacket
Even though it’s summer, count on the possibility of chilly nights or overly air-conditioned restaurants. Play it safe & pack a goes-with-everything jacket.
You know how the cliche goes: work smarter, not harder. Well I like to travel smarter & I’ve learned that well designed, high quality luggage can make or break your travel experience. Especially on a short & sweet trip when you just want to get to your destination & back with ease. I’m so happy that the new pieces I picked out from SWISSGEAR are not only practical but stylish too!
This carry on suitcase was a much needed update to my luggage situation & so perfect for packing a long weekend. And let’s be honest, with some smart capsule wardrobe packing I could easily fit a week’s worth of essentials inside. The white hard shell design makes my minimal loving heart go pitter patter… yet it’s also packed with features like interior organization, a crazy lightweight design, and those smooth gliding spinner wheels I can’t live without.
I’ve already ditched my old camera bag in favor of running around town with this backpack and the love affair has only just begun. It’s a perfect carry-on because even when I’m traveling for pleasure I honestly can’t go anywhere without all my tech including my laptop (for blogging on the road, naturally!). This bad boy has a TSA approved laptop sleeve & organization pockets galore (including a hard exterior pocket to protect your sunnies – so smart) so it’s pretty much the perfect companion for travel, exploring, and taking me back to work afterwards.
