I’m not sure what it was about pregnancy, but I just never felt like ME. Besides the excitement of bringing baby home (obviously!), I really couldn’t wait to get back into my old clothes & regain some semblance of my old self. Except nothing fit… the new me isn’t the same size or shape as the old me. So how does a girl get her groove back?
This is such a common issue with such an easy solution: go buy a new wardrobe staple! A cheap one! A cheap one that makes you feel kinda sexy!
The point is… this is a post about jeans that really isn’t about jeans at all. It’s a post about embracing the body you have right now by giving yourself permission to a wardrobe update (AKA: an investment in your self esteem). Weight loss, weight gain, baby weight, bad breakup… whatever! Treat yourself to one thing to make you feel pretty, so you can mentally feel like your best self while you tackle the day.
My Postpartum Must Have Denim
For me specifically, it’s high rise denim. I’m in no hurry to lose the baby weight, but I just couldn’t live another day in maternity jeans. And even though I generally think good denim is worth the splurge, I wasn’t ready to spend the money on what might be a temporary size.
Enter my new cheap denim obsession: Old Navy jeans. Specifically the high rise rockstar jeans with “secret-slim” pockets. These are a pretty decent dupe of my beloved Madewell 10″ skinny at a quarter of the price (hint: there’s always a coupon code).
Another tip: try a bunch on in store if you don’t know your new size post baby. The size chart online put me at a 10 based on waist measurement but I ended up fitting size 4 or 6 just fine, so you never know.
Bonus styling tip:
Buy your sweater in the petites section if you want something more cropped to pair with your high rise denim. This sweater is from last year but I linked to something similar. The shoes were another mommy treat to myself… they’re SO comfy & the whimsical fluffy llamas just make me smile 🙂
