(Make sure to start the lean closet series from the beginning… you’ll need your answers from Define Your Personal Style & Lifestyle Essentials to use Pinterest to plan your wardrobe in this exercise!)
Pinterest Mood Board
Are you excited? Your adult homework for the weekend is Pinterest homework! So basically I’m granting you permission to spend a little extra time pinning this weekend. #sorrynotsorry
What we’re going to do today is combine your homework answers from Lean Closet 1 & 2 to create a mood board. This is where all your hard work so far is going to come together to give you visual representation of your perfect closet. Why? Mood boards are a tool that designers use to craft a cohesive look, and you’re going to use the same concept to design your perfect wardrobe!
Log into Pinterest and create a new board (you can make it a secret board if you want).
- Pin only what you love!
- It’s totally okay to pin non fashion photos, include a few images just for mood.
What to search for:
- your mood words (from worksheet 1)
- your fashion likes (from worksheet 1)
- your closet staples (from worksheet 2)
- any specific items, brands, or accessories that you already know you love and want to incorporate into your wardrobe
- do a general scroll through of the women’s fashion section for anything that jumps out at you
A Tip: When you find a pin you really love, scroll down to the “related pins” for more pins you’ll love!
Once you’re done pinning open up your board and examine it with a critical eye. Delete any pins that you don’t love-love. I started off with over 40 pins but deleted about half of them. If you were honest with yourself when going through all the exercises, this mood board should feel 100% you. Now you have great visual representation of your #closetgoals to refer to!
Take a nice long look at your beautiful new mood board… do you see any patterns? A color palette? An outfit “uniform” formula? Is there anything about your board that surprises you?
Here’s my board, feel free to look through it as an example!
My mood words (dark romance, relaxed, warm, playful) are represented by the images of the florals, the cozy sweaters, and the quirky accessories. You can clearly see my likes (menswear inspired, tailored, softness, texture, quirky classics) represented in the street style, menswear influenced outfits I pinned. Did you notice the outfit formula? Skinny pants, a button down, and flat shoes! The color palette? Mostly neutrals baby! The perfect wardrobe is a marriage of personality & practicality. bit.ly/1TdbeP3 Click To Tweet
This mood board is pretty accurate to the current state of my wardrobe… but even better than that: it reflects my personality and suits my lifestyle. The perfect wardrobe is a marriage of personality & practicality, and that’s what we’re aiming for!
Let me know how your mood board turned out! Is your current wardrobe pretty much on track with your goals, or do you have a long way to go? Next week we’re going to dive into the nitty gritty of cleaning out your closet and making a shopping list! (Join my BBFs to make sure you don’t miss any posts in the lean closet series.)
